چکیده

In Shawe Taylor and Zerovnik introduced the Generalised Boltzmann Machine GBM as an extension to the Boltzmann machine that enables us to map constraint problems requiring more than two states onto a recurrent neural network In experiments were performed using the Mean Field Annealing approach to graph colouring using the Petford and Welsh algorithm as a GBM In this paper we extend the use of bitstreams from the bi polar stochastically connected Boltzmann machine to a recurrent network of stochastically connected multi state bit stream neurons MSBSN We compare the performance of the re sultant network with the results obtained using Mean Field Annealing described in and the Petford and Welsh algorithm The results obtained from simulations of the MSBSN show that there is no increase in the number of iterations taken to solve a typical randomly generated k colourable graph Clearly the digital nature of the neuron combined with its simple functionality described by Shawe Taylor Van Daalen and Zhao in could lead to a fast and inexpensive hardware implementaion

On Some Randomised Algorithms for Graph Colouring

The paper investigates the application of the Mean Field Annealing (MFA) approach to graph colouring using the Petford and Welsh algorithm as a Generalised Boltzmann Machine. The operation of the MFA algorithm for a Generalised Boltzmann Machine is characterised by the deenition of an appropriate energy function which the algorithm attempts to minimise. In the case of graph colouring a relation...

Compact analogue neural network: a new paradigm for neural based combinatorial optimisation

The authors present a new approach to neural based optimisation, to be termed as the compact analogue neural network (CANN), which requires substantially fewer neurons and interconnection weights as compared to the Hopfield net. They demonstrate that the graph colouring problem can be solved by using the CANN, with only O(N) neurons and O(N) interconnections, where N is the number of nodes. In ...

The complexity of tropical graph homomorphisms

A tropical graph (H, c) consists of a graph H and a (not necessarily proper) vertex-colouring c of H. For a fixed tropical graph (H, c), the decision problem (H, c)-Colouring asks whether a given input tropical graph (G, c1) admits a homomorphism to (H, c), that is, a standard graph homomorphism of G to H that also preserves vertex-colours. We initiate the study of the computational complexity ...

Graph Colouring Problems and Their Applications in Scheduling

Graph colouring and its generalizations are useful tools in modelling a wide variety of scheduling and assignment problems. In this paper we review several variants of graph colouring, such as precolouring extension, list colouring, multicolouring, minimum sum colouring, and discuss their applications in scheduling.

List-colourings of Near-outerplanar Graphs

A list-colouring of a graph is an assignment of a colour to each vertex v from its own list L(v) of colours. Instead of colouring vertices we may want to colour other elements of a graph such as edges, faces, or any combination of vertices, edges and faces. In this thesis we will study several of these different types of list-colouring, each for the class of a near-outerplanar graphs. Since a g...
